CT Apple Challenge: 2019

One way to celebrate CT Grown for CT Kids Week this October 7-11, 2019 is by participating in the 3rd annual HardCORE Apple and Pear Challenge! (Yes - this year, we’re encouraging you to try local pears, too!)
To take part, all you need is a #CTGrown apple or pear and

  1. Eat it down to its core!

OR...

  1. Try at least 2 different types of #CTGrown apples or pears - or one of each!

  2. Take a trip to a local orchard!

  3. Any other apple or pear activity that connects students to local food - get creative!

By participating, you are promoting some of the most readily available local products in the fall in a fun and simple way that engages the entire school community. All of October is National Farm to School Month, in case you want to celebrate all month long!

Visit putlocalonyourtray.uconn.edu/hardcorechallenge/ to let us know that you plan on taking part in the fun, and to access resources to help you get started. All you have to do is click the button that says, Count Me In! to submit your name and school district. That way, you will get some social media promotion for celebrating #CTgrownforCTkids! Any questions can be sent to molly.deegan@uconn.edu. Crunch on, CT!

SNA Fees Change

For the 2019-20 year, the SNA Board of Directors has approved small increases for the membership processing fee and Certificate program fees.

As of October 1, 2019, the processing fee will be changed to $2.50, reflecting the ongoing costs of doing business.  The membership processing fee had been unchanged since 2014 and SNA continues to strive to keep costs down, while still providing high-quality member benefits.

Also effective on October 1, 2019, the Certificate program fees will increase as outlined below.  The changes apply to new Certificate applications, renewals and reinstatements.

SNA Training Zone

SNA members can take advantage of the newly launchedTraining Zone, to find a variety of resources to help earn a new certificate or level up! The Training Zone includes educational webinars, comprehensive training modules, CEU tracking tools and more.

“Hit Me With Your Best Shot”

SNACT’s monthly photo campaign to highlight the amazing offerings at Connecticut schools!

Every month we’ll introduce a new theme and ask that School Nutrition Directors all over the state send us their best photos throughout the month that we will post on the SNACT Facebook page. Send your photos to Amanda Mueller at Cashman Katz

Pictures may also be displayed in the Nutmegger, at the banquet, and/or used for other promotions. Be sure proper releases are in place with photos of children.
