When I was a Food Service Manager I had a student come up to me and give me a big hug and said “you make that the best food! Thank you, see you tomorrow for breakfast”. LOL that made my day.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not everyone might know.

I love taking off for the day with my husband on his motorcycle. Traveling back roads on a warm sunny day, it’s just the best. I have even attempted to learn how to ride a motorcycle, lol.  I am also a big Alabama Crimson Tide Fans, Roll Tide!

What is your position in the School Nutrition program?

I am a Registered Dietitian and the Food Service Director for Watertown Public Schools.

What motivates you to go to work every day?

Seeing the impact we have on student’s health and wellness daily. As School Nutrition Professionals, we have the ability to make healthy food exciting by providing taste tests, nutrition education lessons, and exciting events focused around health and wellness.

What was your favorite school lunch growing up?

My favorite lunch growing up was the stuffed crust pizza every Friday. I still can’t resist pizza when it’s on the menu!

What is your memorable moment in school lunch and why?

I was a senior in high school and writing an article for Journalism class about the changes that were being implemented in school meals. I interviewed the cafeteria staff and I saw how passionate they were about providing nutritious meals to the students. After the interview and daily interactions with the staff, I will always remember how dedicated, friendly, and enthusiastic they were on a daily basis.

When did you realize that school lunch was going to be your vocation?

I realized school lunch was going to be my vocation when I started working for Meriden Public Schools as their Registered Dietitian. I enjoyed working alongside the staff and working on various projects to continuously improve the program. I was eager to learn from such knowledgeable people and I knew the more I learned the more confident I was that school nutrition was my future.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment in school nutrition?

My greatest accomplishment in school nutrition has been getting involved with the School Nutrition Association of Connecticut (SNACT).  This provided me the opportunity to work with seasoned directors who have helped mentor me and provide insight on the next steps I should be taking to further my career.  Without getting involved, the amount of information I have learned would not have been possible.

If you didn’t work in school lunch what would you like to do?

If I did not work in school lunch I would be a Certified Diabetes Educator. While studying for my Undergrad, I shadowed a Dietitian in a Diabetes Center for eight months. I enjoyed getting to know the patients and assisting them with making healthier choices!

What is your favorite food, book, destination, animal, season, author, movie, hobby, vacation, car?

My favorite vacation is going up to Maine with my family and relaxing on the beach! Nothing is more relaxing to me then a good book, warm weather, and hearing the waves crash on the sand.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not everyone might know?

I’m currently training for a half marathon. It’s been challenging sticking to a running schedule with everything else going on in life – but it definitely is stress relieving! When it’s sunny and warm out I love to put on a pair of running shoes and enjoy the weather!
